Setting up a Bench Polisher – Speed up your Polishing

A bench polisher is a very helpful addition to your jewellery workshop as it will vastly speed up and improve the finish you can achieve. As you can imagine a larger mop can do far more work.

There are two options in terms of equipment;

  1. a Grinder which you convert into a polisher (often more economical and versatile!)
  2. or a dedicated polisher (such as the Foredom bench lathe)

Convert a Grinder into a Polisher

We offer a range of grinders which can simply be turned into polishers. This is often the most cost effective way of getting a polisher set up. All that is needed is a grinder and the correct size pigtails. Even the most basic model is ideal for polishing jewellery, though a busy workshop may prefer to aim more at the middle of the range grinders and polishers.

Pigtails

Pigtails are fitted to the arbor/shaft of the grinder with grub screws keeping them in place. Mops can the be wound onto the threaded taper at the end. You just need to know the diameter of this shaft to select the right one.
