We really recommend a watch as it gives a great starting point for finishing Aluminium of all shapes and sizes.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wsGQO3Pdmt0?rel=0\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Aluminium is a soft metal, it scratches like mad! This property however does make it simple to polish. As ever adequate scratch removal and flattening dictates the result. Any ripples or scratches left behind will show in the final polish.<\/p>\n<p>The best thing to use is either <a href=\"http:\/\/moleroda.com\/new\/acatalog\/Wet_and_Dry_Paper.html\">wet and dry<\/a>\u00a0or <a href=\"http:\/\/moleroda.com\/new\/acatalog\/Micromesh.html\">micromesh<\/a>. This applies regardless of scale, be it an alloy wheel or a small aluminium pendant.<\/p>\n<p>Either felts or mops are then used for the polishing stage. For large items a <a href=\"http:\/\/moleroda.com\/new\/acatalog\/Loosefold_Mops.html\">loosefold mop <\/a>will do the trick something like a &#8216;G&#8217; to start then a &#8216;WDR&#8217; to finish. A <a href=\"http:\/\/moleroda.com\/new\/acatalog\/Stitched-Mops.html\">white stitched mop<\/a>\u00a0is a good option too before using the WDR mop, this will give a bit more cut and speed the job up.<\/p>\n<p>For small items I recommend little <a href=\"http:\/\/moleroda.com\/new\/acatalog\/Mini-Mops.html#SID=335\">mounted stitched mops\u00a0<\/a>in &#8216;G&#8217; or &#8216;WDR&#8217; followed by a <a href=\"http:\/\/moleroda.com\/new\/acatalog\/Mounted-Calico-Mop.html#SID=828\">mounted soft calico mop<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As for compounds, the blue and brown bars in the video are a great start&#8230;<a href=\"http:\/\/moleroda.com\/new\/acatalog\/Small-polishing-compound.html#SID=1027\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-115 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/moleroda.com\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/41BROWNBLUE-300x227.jpg\" alt=\"blue and brown compound\" width=\"300\" height=\"227\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.polishingjewellery.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/08\/41BROWNBLUE-300x227.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.polishingjewellery.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/08\/41BROWNBLUE-768x580.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.polishingjewellery.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/08\/41BROWNBLUE-1024x774.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.polishingjewellery.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/08\/41BROWNBLUE-252x190.jpg 252w, https:\/\/www.polishingjewellery.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/08\/41BROWNBLUE-600x453.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Generally for aluminium a cutting bar is used first to remove remaining fine scratches, it&#8217;s normally brown in colour (ours is called apollo). This is followed by a polishing bar to bring up the shine, this is normally blue, green or white. We do several bars that could be used for this stage, <a href=\"http:\/\/moleroda.com\/new\/acatalog\/Cutting-compound-.html\">2000D, Sunblue, 309BX or the ultimate polishing bar FF9<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Aluminium is messy, it creates a nasty black residue which can be a problem. It must be removed before it cools and goes hard. It can go rock hard and be stubborn then to remove. We suggest a bag of <a href=\"http:\/\/moleroda.com\/new\/acatalog\/Vienna-Lime.html#SID=119\">vienna lime<\/a> applied by dipping in a lint free cloth and wiping the surface.<\/p>\n<p>*ding* after all that you should have a pretty nifty shine.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Angi over at\u00a0Blanks for Stamping\u00a0has made this excellent video showing tips on polishing aluminium (in this case stamping blanks) with some of our products.
